Cooking in Your Furnished Apartment

Texan dish - chili con carne!


  • 1 pound ground beef

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes

  • 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce

  • 2 tablespoons chili powder

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 can (15 ounces) kidney beans, drained and rinsed


  1. In a large skillet or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat.

  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the ground beef, and cook until the onion is translucent.

  3. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir to combine.

  4. Reduce the heat to low, and simmer the chili for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. Add the kidney beans to the skillet, and simmer for an additional 10 minutes.

  6. Serve the chili hot, topped with shredded cheese and chopped cilantro, if desired.
